The density of petroleum products increases with the increase of carbon, oxygen and sulfur content in their composition, so the density of petroleum products with more aromatic hydrocarbons, resins and asphaltenes is large, while the density of petroleum products with more cycloalkanes is in the middle, and the density of petroleum products with more alkanes is the smallest. Therefore, according to the density (or specific gravity) of petroleum products, the type and composition of oil products can be determined to some extent.
